| Title: | Something vaguely to do with the election, and not really front page material | |

| But hey, I’m Toam and I can post whatever I want on the front page. Benny makes quite a good point in his “Your Choice '07. Benny's Say.....” Well, part of it anyway. Now, I enjoy talking to your average bloke about politics. I don’t enjoy talking to people who are overly political as they almost always have some enormous bias towards something completely unreasonable and often nonsensical. Case in point I was talking to my step dad about workplace related politics. I also remember speaking to him about this several years ago, likely before the last federal election. He was saying then that he would likely vote liberal due to their attitudes towards a businesses right to sack employees. At the time he was a commercial fisherman with one employee. I don’t believe he ever had any intention of sacking him, which is illustrated by the fact he never did, however he did use this as an example. Why is it, that he should not be able to sack this employee? It is his business. This is a very similar argument to that made by Benny in his rant. If the owners/managers/whatever of Benny’s pub want to sack an employee for being “generally shit” ie: the employee hasn’t done anything horrifically wrong, but just isn’t what they expect in an employee, why shouldn’t they be able to sack them? My step dad now runs a small business, which isn’t really relevant at all since it is still much the same scenario as he spoke to me about several years ago. A quote he left me with was this: “If I have the right to hire someone to work for me, why should I not have the same right to sack them?” After all, it is his business. Discuss. (I say this knowing fuck all people actually visit teamfrouse let alone look at the front page) |
