Title: And in terms of flow charts...

Author: Toam Posted: 23-08-2007

A slight modification of a previous flow chart gives a more general description of my attitude towards people:

Those that know me are well aware that I am not exactly president of the "Second Year Maths and Physics Students Fan Club". In fact, I'm not even a member. I might even go one step further and say that no such club exists. If one did and I was feeling like wasting valuable time and money I might go and put posters up all over the place indicating that I am strongly opposed to the point of view of the club and that I want to stop the club, because I have the right to my point of view even though my point of view infringes on their point of view and every single thought I have is strongly politically motivated. At this stage I might take a few steps back to where I was simply not a member of this fan club which may be hypothetical or which may be very, very real.

Now, since I have failed several subjects over the last two years due to circumstances which are largely irrelevant, I am currently enrolled in several second year subjects (despite being in my fourth year at university). I should probably add that just because you are not younger than me does not mean I do not hate you or that I do not find you to be ridiculously annoying. There are people who started uni the same year as me who I cannot stand. However it does seem that the age of a person, with respect to my age, relates to the chance of them pissing me off.

Notice that the graph begins at 0 probability from maximum negative deviation from my age due to the fact that I do not hate children who are too young to be aware of how annoying they might be. Also note the bump towards the positive end due to the fact that old people can be quite irritating. The bump is small because I find that an old person has to be really, really annoying before they get anywhere near the level of rage that a teenager can cause a person to experience.

The graph is drawn so that it would be as accurate as possible as I age, but it should be obvious that the wide peak at the low end will only get wider as it incorporates teenagers and everyone up to my age. The "old person bump" will gradually move closer to the 0 point.

A flow chart and a graph in and I am still no where near my point, whatever that may be.

One thing that I cannot fucking stand is people. I could leave that there.

One thing that I cannot fucking stand is people who need to try to turn everything into a joke. Don't get me wrong, I have a fucking sensational sense of humour and I love to have a laugh, BUT NOT EVERYTHING IS MEANT TO BE FUNNY. Further, not everything IS funny.

I have an ex-girlfriend who would always laugh whenever she didn't understand something or when she fucked something up or when someone pointed out a flaw. That annoyed me. Just accept it, don't fucking laugh about it. It isn't funny at all. If someone points out that I am wrong I will accept it assuming they are right. Well I suppose I would, if it happened.

I also hate people that are indignant without reason. If you are indignant with justification (which in pretty much every case, you aren't) then that is ok. Example: Today in a maths practice class, this guy who is probably 20 and a pretty big bloke that looks like a goon came over to the person I was sitting next to (who is 16 I should, perhaps, add) and demands help with a question that he had finished a while ago. He informed the goon fellow that he had moved on from that question and had no desire to go back to help him. Fair enough. "Someone's in a mood," was the response from Captain Goon.

There are two obvious paths for me to follow here.

1. Of course he was in "A" mood. I am unaware of how you could not be. Maybe he was in a happy mood? Please specify to avoid confusion.

2. Why is it that when some fuckwit expects you to drop everything to help them out when you have no need to and no desire to, and you don't, it is you who is at fault. Because they are a fuckwit, that is why. I can't fucking stand fuckwits.

This one guy is, rather unfortunately, a fair representation of second year maths and physics students.

However if there is one thing I hate more than second year maths and physics students it is first year maths and physics students. It is very important to note that I do not hate them simply because they are in the years below me, I hate them because of the way the fucking act.

This evening I decided to attend one of the first year astronomy observation nights, just for fun. Fun is perhaps not the best word to describe it. I very much enjoyed the actual observing, however the time I spent looking through the telescope is considerably less than the time I spend standing around observing the behaviour of these dickheads and hearing them talk absolute nonsense. Sometimes I actually envy the deaf.

It is important to take into account that at bare minimum these guys have all done at least half a semester of astronomy as they are all enrolled in it. Even if we pretend they hadn't, a majority of their questions were fucking stupid.

"What makes the sun actually be on fire?"

If a child asked me this, I'd accept it. However the guy that asked this was around 18 and I felt like throwing him off the roof. This was after all he wanted to talk about was "the signs". He wanted to know if we were going to be looking at and of "the signs, you know, the pictures that people see in the sky". I assume he meant constellations.

Later I heard this same guy and one of his dickhead friends arguing with the demonstrator about global warming. They asked him about Al Gores movie "An Inconvenient truth" and he said he hadn't seen it. Their response was along the lines of "How can you have an opinion on global warming if you haven't seen that movie?"

Here is a link to Al Gore's wikipedia page. I had a look and I couldn't find any reason why Al Gore is recognised as a scientific authority. If you spot one, let me know. I am not necessarily disagreeing with his views. I haven't watched the whole movie, either. At this stage I was thinking "My university is way too easy to get into".

Notice I haven't even commented on the completely inane banter that was carried on by these guys and the majority of others who attended. Perhaps I would have if the bus ride home didn't make their ramblings seem like some sort of academic presentation.

Luckily for me when I got to the bus stop I had a few minutes to wait before the bus arrived. I think it was about 5 but it felt a lot longer for some reason which I just can't quite put my finger on...

Luckier still was that a group of about 9 drunk girls was getting on the bus with me, after standing around talking about who knows what at the bus stop. Something about the conversation these girls were having changed when we got on the bus. As usual, I have provided a graph explaining my observations:

I have used the term "enclosed area" when "enclosed volume" would have been a more accurate statement to avoid confusion between "noise volume" and "spacial volume". I do not understand this at all. They were closer together once they got on the bus as well. These girls all would have been in the 18 - 21 range, thus fitting to my original graph.

Something else which I pondered today which is perhaps an interesting point for discussion is why is "chalk graffiti" not treated the same as any other sort of graffiti (ie: vandalism)? Obviously there are some differences eg: spray paint, markers etc are much more difficult/expensive to remove.

My initial thought was that chalk would come off in the rain and wind, however the writing I was looking at had been up for a fair while and it had rained since so obviously it was sheltered. It was beginning to fade, though.

However that doesn't change the fact that if someone wanted it gone they would have to actually clean the wall themselves, which is effort that they would have to go to. It is less effort than if the wall had been painted, but effort nonetheless.

Enjoy.
